Impact of Personality Traits and Role Efficacy on Stress Level: An Empirical Study
Abstract
Stress has been recognized as a major challenge to not only individualmental and physical health but also to organizationalhealth (ILO 1986). It may cripple organizational growth and productivity.Though numerous studies examine the relationship ofstress with other individual level factors including personality,
the relationship of the five factor model of personality and roleefficacy with stress has been studied much less, especially in Asiancountries. In fact, no such study has been undertaken on a sampleset comprising Indians. This paper seeks to bridge this gap byexamining whether personality and role efficacy act as predictors
of employee stress or not. The results of the study reveal thatout of the big five, only neuroticism is significantly related to thestress of the employees. The study also reveals that only the centralityand growth aspects of role efficacy significantly explainthe variance in the stress of the employees
